Lastly I’ve realised not everyone knows that the emporium is actually made up of over 30 different, independent small businesses all trading under the same roof. So when you support us you are supporting a number of people in the local community. The girls have put links on the website to the different businesses so it’s well worth a click to find out who makes No.38 so special. Ta ra for now folks…….

Me Again Folks!

It’s me again, No.38 popping by to catch you all up on the latest happenings at the emporium. June has got off to an amazing start for the girls and their traders after a quieter May. The weather seems to affect you lovely lot and you don’t want to pop out to play in the rain! Can’t think why you wouldn’t brave the torrential storms we have had? I stand in it all the time with just my lovely tiled roof for cover!

image

One of the girls has just returned from a well earned family break in the sun so the fabulous Mrs Top Step Antiques stepped in for holiday cover and was working her little socks off. She will defo need a holiday too after her extra days at the emporium. She was buzzing round sorting all you lovely peeps out. It seems you have all been loving the girls window display so much you’ve practically bought it all which meant Mrs Top Step was climbing in and out of the window for you all hehe!

image

I have been noticing some new faces popping in and out of my doors recently it would seem the girls have been joined by several new traders with a few more still in the pipeline. Small Wonders has arrived in our cubby holes and is proving jolly popular too. Her pictures are amazing. All based on the Cornish seaside too, with shells, driftwood, hand stitching etc.

In all its been a pretty busy start to June. Coffee and cakes are enjoyed on a Friday especially by our adorable postman who pops in for a takeaway! Downstairs had a bit of doing up session and I’ve had a wash and brush up! Anyway enough from me I’m being got ready (terrible grammar sorry folks) to open my doors for a fabulous day ahead. I did hear that some of the lovely people who make my insides what they are today are popping in for a restock so watch the girls Facebook page to see all the new goodies. Toodle pip until next time….

Spring has Sprung!

shopfront

Well hello from a spruced up No.38. I can confirm I am all snugly now. The lovely man from Scotland who the girls borrow me from has put in some new efficient heating. I am well chuffed and so are all you lovely customers when you pop in now.

peterborough

Been doing a bit of eavesdropping as you do when you are a building like me and I heard about all the antiques fairs the girls and boys go to. It sounds jolly exciting too. They get up at ‘revolting’ hour o’clock to go though. Sometimes they travel miles across the country to source the gorgeous goodies within my walls. Several of them went to Peterborough over the Easter weekend for a treasure hunt but I do know they also go to Lincoln, Newark, Ardingley, London and some even pop over the channel. It doesn’t stop there though, once they have acquired the items they have to clean and restore them which depending on the condition can take many hours of labour. The big items of furniture get delivered by the fairies I’m sure because there is no way the girls could hump some of those items around!?!

TINKER_BELL_AND_THE_GREAT_FAIRY_RESCUE_Photo_03

Our lovely handmade items also take hours to get ready and I’m certain they don’t add their hours to the final cost. We all do what we do in the emporium because we love it and wouldn’t have it any other way. It’s a happy place to be with lots of squeals when new stock comes in. You should have heard the noise last week when all our silversmiths popped new shiny bits in!

stephdog

The girls have so many clever people in the shop, with loads of original ideas. Have you seen Twinkle n Things in the cubby holes downstairs? Did you know Ava and Arthur could make you a mermaid tail blanket? Sew Rosie Sew can do you a cushion for any occasion and Tangled Vine can make candles to order for weddings etc. Fancy a frock? Ask the girls about Grace Face Boutique. On top of all this there is pottery by Andrew and Stained glass by Dawn. Sparkle at Home have some fab children’s items in at the mo. Did you know Greg from the Outhouse will do commissions too? Fancy a big light up wooden ‘B’ just ask. I think the emporium has something for everyone don’t you?

sewrbunny

Well I’m about to sign off as Alex is on her way to fling my doors open but just a quickie…….what is it about spring that makes you all want to paint? Frenchic furniture paint is proving so, so popular the girls have put two orders in last week. Well as they say Spring is in the air, toodle pip I’m off now xxx

Catch Up Time

Hello time for a wee catch up on the happenings inside my doors me thinks! Well all sorts has been going on with the arrival of several new traders, who are proving terribly popular with you all. Throwback Vintage is now installed upstairs and pop in to restock on both a Monday and a Friday so I get to see the very glamorous Faye who I must say dresses beautifully. They arrive with bags full of Levi’s, Sherpa jackets, flying jackets, plaid shirts and more.

image

Next up is Chaps of Distinction and jolly dapper they are too. Roy and Linda run this outfit and travel a fair distance to be part of the girls emporium. So gents if it’s jackets, suits, hats, shoes, cravats in 1940’s style that you are after then pop upstairs and peruse. They also make something called a tussie mussie, picture below for those who aren’t in the know.

image

The Outhouse is also upstairs and they make some fabulous goods out of sustainable materials. Greg who owns the business has made the girls a flashing wooden arrow to go on my staircase, I am just so on trend now for an old geezer!

image

Twinkle n Things joined the girls downstairs in the cubby holes and is also very popular, boy the work that goes into those pretty tins is incredible.

Maggie Ann Vintage who was already with us has taken on more space so she can expand her range of very popular clothing which comes in all sizes. We have Hell Bunny, Lindybop, Collectif, Seamstress of Bloomsbury and more. Lots of you lovely ladies are choosing to buy your clothing here now and I think you all look so smart in it.

Mabel’s Vintage has also joined us and brings a mix of Art Deco items and a haberdashery with cottons, buttons, scissors, sewing boxes, lace, ribbons and more. Pop upstairs for a peep, no need to trek to that big old John Lewis now, it’s here in Newport Pagnell.

image

The girls tell me that they are in the final of the Milton Keynes Business Achievement Awards for Independent Retailer. Wow just wow! Obviously it’s all down to me and my absolutely handsome insides! Talking of which I hear there is a film crew coming in March so I need to look my best for that. A bit of a spruce up is on the cards, I shall get those girls flicking the duster around ASAP! Rightie O time to get ready to open my doors to all you lovely peeps. See you soon xxx

It’s All About Me!

Well January is nearly over, where did that go? After the manic build up to Christmas it’s been a bit quieter here. I guess you are all still recovering. I’ve been spruced up a bit by the girls ready for the new year. They decided I was looking a little tatty! How rude, it was them after all who bashed all the holes in my walls. Naming no names but one of them really shouldn’t be let loose with a hammer! Ouch.

image

I smell gorgeous too now with the addition of the coffee machine for traders and customers alike. It seems to be going down really well and means you gorgeous lot get to browse in comfort with cappuccino. Sssssh I heard tale of cakes on a Friday too!

image

The paint that the girls stock down my little corridor is selling well and proving to be outstanding. I like the fact that it doesn’t contain any nasties! Safe for children and pets alike. The girls have just ordered the new lazy range too which means no waxing! Why not give it a go? The girls are happy to demonstrate and advise you on any project. Got a tired old piece of furniture? Paint it!

image

I have been listening in too and I hear that there are some changes afoot including some new traders joining the family. Chaps of Distinction is arriving this Sunday with his 1940’s suits, hats, accessories and more so something to keep the boys busy ladies whilst you peruse the goodies! The Outhouse is taking on a shelf too upstairs with his handcrafted goods from local and sustainable sources. Sparkle at Home has decided to join us permanently now (you see glitter isn’t just for Christmas)! Throw Back Vintage is moving in on Sunday and Monday. Did you know they were featured in The Daily Telegraph as one of the top 50 vintage boutiques in the UK. Maggie Ann Vintage is spreading to another rail too, so her range of repro vintage clothing will be even better! Rosie Sew Rosie has just joined the team upstairs with her range of customised cushions and next to her we finally have our very own haberdashery curtesy of Mabel’s Vintage who travels from Northampton to join in the fun! Twinkle n Things is arriving today, very crafty, pop in for a peep.

image

Right enough of my waffling and bragging, ooo apart from to say the girls have reached the second stage of the Milton Keynes Business Achievement Awards. I heard they are off to one of those trade fair things next week too. Great big ugly building they are off to not like myself full of character. They are sourcing new goodies for you lovely lot so watch this space. Don’t forget to follow our adventures on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and Pintrest as well as taking a look at the website. Well what a busy week it was with you all popping in and out of my doors. The girls tell me it was one of the busiest weeks to date. It’s so fabulous that you are all supporting a small business and its independent traders. Talking of traders they have been in and out like a fiddlers elbow! Several wingback chairs have arrived from Vicarage Antique and Salvage and gone within minutes to be replaced by another beauty in a different colour only to leave me again!

image

I am all glittered out…..Sparkle at Home have managed to cover me in gold. It’s even got upstairs! Boy those stars have been so popular but then they are lovely and very reasonably priced. Poor Davina with her handmade jewellery probably needs to sit down in a dark room and chill, I have never seen so much pretty silver being wrapped up. Scruffy Dog Silver, Holly Blue and Brenda have all been bought in secret! There are some very lucky ladies out there!

image

Sammy’s teddies in tins and painted slates are sooooo popular the girls keep having to call her back with more, I hear she even got her little boy sewing and husband cutting out! Not that I eaves drop on the girls conversations at all. Nicholas and Steele just can’t seem to get enough of their crowned robins, own up if you don’t have one yet.

image

Top Step Antiques has been selling some fabulous jewellery too so once again ladies you will have sparkly fingers. She is also doing needle felted animals to commission and they are amazing. Utterly Clutterly must have supplied the whole of Newport Pagnell with brooches and trios by now? Alliums garden ornaments are sitting under plenty of trees covered in her fab baubles which were a sell out.

Outfits curtesy of Dulcie Britain, Maggie Ann Vintage, Grace Face, Ann and Oh Sew vintage will be worn on Christmas Day. Christmas signs from Charlie Haggerwoods are gracing new walls and candles from Honeysuckle and Roses will be lighting many a table. Tangled Vines candles and clocks are proving very popular too. In fact I know one of the girls is drinking copious amounts of prosecco to supply them with the bottles for their candles (all in the name of support for other traders!)

Mr Pip Goes Solo has provided many a gift for the boys amongst you. Ava and Arthur will be keeping you warm with her fab hats and scarves as well as her amazing pictures being put up on new walls.

It’s been a fabulous year here and it’s not over yet. I hear talk of a sale in the new year. The girls are going to give me a bit of a revamp so the doors will close on Christmas Eve and reopen on Saturday 2 January. I’m certainly looking forward to seeing you all please do share your pictures on the girls Facebook page.

Happy Christmas all from No.38 xxx

Eras Past

Eras Past belongs to the fabulous Georg and has been with the girls since the start of the Emporium taking over my insides! It’s never a dull day when Georg arrives teetering in on her high heels needing coffee and bringing cakes! Georg travels to us from Potters Bar so it’s quite a trek for our pint sized little lady!

Georg has been in the trade a fair while and one of the girls first met her when she managed The Fleetville Emporium over in St Albans. A treasure trove of a place well worth a visit if you are heading that way. I have space envy as its enormous!

image

Georg has changed areas several times and keeps the girls on their toes. They also find all sorts when she leaves the latest being two stools that she forgot and left outside in the car park!

image

Georg’s knowledge is vast and she has a story to tell us about everything she brings in. Pop upstairs to find Eras Past under the candles, two shelves in the second room plus the haberdashery cabinet.
